March 2020 UPDATE!

The City of Oxnard’s denial of the County’s Local Coastal Plan Amendment (LCPA) was a win that temporarily stopped the project moving forward. But the County and the billionaire developers have not given up.

On January 27, 2020, the County filed an Override request with the California Coastal Commission. The County’s Override seeks to overturn the City’s LCPA denial. If the Coastal Commission approves this Override, the project will be able to go forward. We need the Coastal Commission to deny the County’s request for an Override.

County Delays Channel Islands Harbor Hotel Construction – Sunday 4-7-19 VCSTAR

As one of only 12 small-boat harbors left along the California coast, the Channel Islands Harbor is a rare and precious coastal resource within the city of Oxnard. Ventura County owns the harbor land and has shamefully allowed many of the moderately priced visitor-serving facilities, including Fisherman’s Wharf, the Casa Sirena Hotel on Peninsula Road and the Whale’s Tail restaurant on Harbor Boulevard, to deteriorate.

In a February 8, 2019 letter to the Harbor & Beach Community Alliance with copies to the County Board of Supervisors and Oxnard City Council, Mark Sandoval wrote “I also stated that if anyone other than myself or my staff was providing an update on Harbor development or operations, to take it with a grain of salt and understand the objective of the presenting organization.”
